As many of you know Jose Vasquez Vinasco passed away December 11th. On January 14th, at 6:30pm in the MLK room, we will come together to celebrate Jose, his love of life, and his love of the communities he touched. - BHS Winter Intramurals for students who are not on a BHS Athletic Team are held Mon., Wed., and Thur. through Mid-March. - Please contribute books to Brookline High's January 30 all-school Read-in Day and to the Brookline Literacy Project! - The Red Cross Semi-Formal Dance is being held this Saturday from 6-10 pm at the State House. Tickets will be on sale during X Block in Room 304 for $12 and food vouchers for $3

Amy Park

One reason Amy values The Sagamore is because it’s her family in the school. If she could be food, Amy would be dark chocolate, and if she could live anywhere, she’d move to Switzerland. Amy’s favortie musicians include Adele, Adam Lambert and Coldplay. As a  Mac lover, Amy would want to have Steve Jobs, Hillary Clinton and Ban Ki-Moon over for dinner. If she could have a superpower, it would be the ability to duplicate herself without limit.

Anna Parkhurst

Anna works at the Sagamore because whe likes serving the community. Her favorite aspects of the Sagamore are the family dinners from Olecito and Rod Dee during production. Her goal for the newspaper is to make it te best news source in Brookline. Anna’s favorite musicians are Death Cab for Cutie and Lana Del Rey. If she could have three people from history over for dinner, she would cordially invite Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Andrew Jackson. Her favorite hangout in Boston is the Trident Cafe and Bookstore on Newbury Street. If she could have a superpower, she would be able to fly so as to escape to the woods or beach any time she pleased. A proud owner of a Surface tablet, she is PC fan “all the way.”

Joon’s favorite things to do on the Sagamore are taking pictures and blogging about sports. This past year, he won the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Scholarship for Massachusetts. Over the summer, as an intern at Boston Herald, he was credentialed to enter a Red Sox game as a member of the press corps. His favorite musicians are She & Him, Mumford & Sons and indie music too random for anyone else to have heard of. If he were to invite any three people from history over dinner, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth and Peter Gammons would make the cut. A Mac lover, Joon is known for shamelessly promoting his Twitter feed @iamjoonlee.

Aaron likes working on the Sagamore because he enjoys asking lots of questions. His favorite musicians are the Postal Service, Black Star and John Legend. In a biopic about Aaron’s life, he would cast Daniel Radcliffe as the lead. If Aaron could invite anyone from history over for dinner, he would choose William Lloyd Garrison, William Jennings Bryan, and Karl Marx. His favorite subject in school is history. Though born into a PC family, he has become a Mac lover. His favorite spot in Boston is the Arboretum.

Pearl Choi loves both the people and the intelectual stimulation she finds at the Sagamore. owns no pets but does have three younger sister. Her list of favorite musicians includes Jason Mraz, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, John Mayer, Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson and Florence and the Machine. If Pearl could have anyone from history over for dinner, she would invite Jesus Christ, Marylin Monroe, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Miriam likes working on the Sagamore because she loves writing and reporting the news. She has three cats, one of which is extremely fat. If Miriam could be a food, she would be buffalo chicken. Her favorite musicians are Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, and Justin Timberlake. Emma Watson would play Miriam in a movie about her life. Miriam’s favorite place on earth is Paris.

Alex works on the Sagamore because he gets to do what he loves: reading, writing, reporting and editing. His goal for the Sagamore is to make it the best student newspaper in New England. This past summer, he worked as an intern at NPR. Besides journalism, he loves music by Linkin Park and is loyal to Macs. If he could have three people from history over for dinner, they would be Ben Franklin, Alexander Hamilton and Confucius. If he could have a superpower, it would either be teleportation or time control.

Emma Nash, Arts

Emma’s favorite aspect of the Sagamore is teaching people how to write “good.” Her  goal for the paper is to produce sophisticated writing that reflects on a wide range of social issues within the school. She also also hopes to demonstrate the importance of art to the community at large, especially its power to explore and reflect these issues. Her favorite musicians are The Mountain Goats, Joanna Newsom and rap god Choi Minho. In a movie about her life, Emma would be played by comedian Maria Bamford.

Matthias likes both the community and the writing that happens at The Sagamore. His favorite work is pitching and editing sports articles. His goal for The Sagamore is to create a clean, thought-provoking sports section. Matthias’s favorite bands are Coldplay and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In a movie about his life, Matthias would be played by Orlando Bloom. The three figures from history Matthias would invite over for dinner would be Alexander Hamilton, Ted Williams and Malcolm Gladwell. Even if Matthias could choose anywhere in the world to live, he would stick with Boston, and his favorite spot is Cleveland Circle. Matthias is an enthusiastic Mac fan. If he could choose any superpower, it would be super strength.

Ben Gladstone, Opinions & Centerspread

Ben likes working on the Sagamore because he gets the chance to be part of a large collaboration with awesome people. For instance, Ben’s favorite thing to work on at the Sagamore is anything that lets him work with Barker Colbert-Reagan. Outside of the Sagamore, he is proud of Liberals for Israel, an organization he founded. At home, his family has a communal tortoise as a pet. Ben’s favorite musical artists are P!nk, because of what she stands for, and Subliminal, not only because of what he supports but also because of his status as an epic Israeli rapper. If Ben could be any food, he would be BHS cafeteria mush, so that nobody would eat him.

Tasoula loves meeting businesses to sell advertisement space and meeting people for interviews. She really enjoys working as a team on the Sagamore. If she could have one superpower, she would be able to travel in time. Having recently developed an appreciation for country music, Tasoula is a fan of Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Carrie Unerwood. Her favorite subjects in school are history and biology. If she could live anywhere in the world, she would settle forever on a beach in Aruba.

Lily likes working on the Sagamore because the process of creating a nespaper is cool and she really likes the journalistic style of writing. In school, her favorite class is history. Her favorite musician is Jack johnson, and if whe could live anywhere, whe would go to Australia. A Mac computer fan, Lily would choose mindreading if she could have any superpower.

Seth Coven

Seth likes working at the Sagamore because the writing is a fun, different style than normal papers for English class. He likes writing for Sports and learning about different subjects during interviews. His favorite musicians are Miguel, Rick Ross, and Wale. In a movie about his life, Seth would be played by Adam Sandler. If he could invite anyone over for dinner, he would choose Mahatma Gandhi, Benedict Arnold and Mother Teresa. If he could have any superpower, he would have X-ray vision. Seth prefers Macs over PCs.

Emmanuel D’Agostino

If Emmanuel could be any food, he would opt to be celery. The superpower of his choice is mind control, and the city to live in of his choice is Paris. Instead of living in Paris, he lives in Brookline, where his favorite place to be is Anna’s Taqueria. Emmanuel owns two pets: a cat and a turtle.

At the Sagamore, Kate likes both the people and the satisfaction that come with distributing the paper each month. Her favorite subject in school is math. For pets, she has three koi that live in a pond behind her house. If she could live anywhere in the world, she would move to Tokyo. Kate is a strong Mac fan. If she could have any superpower, it would be teleportation, but telekinesis would come in a close second.

Caroline Fishkin

Caroline likes working on the Sagamore because it is the voice of the high school, and because it allows her to talk to people she would not have otherwise. She particularly enjoys doing man-on-the-street interviews and taking pictures. If she could be a food, Caroline woud be pasta. Her favorite subjects in school are English and History. Although she is a PC owner, she prefers Macs. If she could have any superpower, she would choose time travel.

Irene likes learning new skills and meeting new people through her work on the Sagamore. Her favorite things to write about are events around the school. She loves music and movies, with her favorite musicians being Prince, Florence and the Machine and The Head and the Heart. Some of her other favorite things are embroidery, knitting, green tea, the stars, the color pink, and working with the Brookline High School GTSA. She loves spending time with her cat, Ferris and her friends. Her least favorite things and blondie brownies, because they once made her sick, and alpacas, because they are just the poor man’s llama.

Juliana loves the talking to people and the writing and reading of articles she gets to do at the Sagamore. Her favorite band is Foster the People. Juliana would have Anne Hathaway play her in a biopic. Her favorite hangout in Brookline is Olea Cafe, but if she could live anywhere in the world, she would move to Israel. her secret talent is that she can spell words backwards (and forwards), and if she could have a superpower, it would be transformation.

Her favorite part of working on the Sagamore is writing and delivering news to others, and meeting great people in the process. In the ongoing debate, Ashley sides with PCs over Macs. She likes listening to music by Stereopony and Imagine Dragons, along with Vocaloid music. If she could have anyone from history over for dinner, she would invite Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, and William Shakespeare. Ashley prides herself on her victory in a writing contest during the past school year.

Jeremy Margolis

Jeremy Margolis likes the camaraderie of The Sagamore, as well as meeting and interviewing new people. In his non-journalist life, Jeremy is often running, talking about running or hanging out with his friends and family. His friends and family are often annoyed when he makes crazy noises with his hands, but Jeremy thinks that is his secret talent. One of his family members is his twin sister, Maya, who is also on The Sagamore staff.  His dog, Cola, is another integral part of his life, but he often can’t take her when he travels, which is another one of his interests.

Greg likes work on the Sagamore because it gives him a cheance to improve his writing skills and understand the school better. His favorite work on the paper is writing play reviews and artist of the Month profiles. His favorite musicians are Eminem, Jay-Z, and the Notorious B.I.G. His secret talent is that he can rap and play the cello at the same time. If he could live anywhere in the world, he would live in Berlin. Dave Chapelle would play Greg in a movie about his life. Greg would take Batman’s gadgets over any superpower, and a PC over any Mac.
